Mio chooses Origo

– A chill alternative to regular hotels

When Mikkel began renovating his new home — a charming Jugendstil villa from 1905 — he knew it was going to be a challenge. Ambitious plans take time, and before long, he needed a temporary place to stay. Origo Apartment Hotel became the perfect solution.

– I had six days left before I had to move out of my previous place, but the new house was nowhere near ready. Living on a construction site with my two cats was out of the question, and options like crashing at a friend’s place, an Airbnb, or a regular hotel just didn’t cut it. Luckily, my friends reminded me about Origo Apartment Hotel, says Mikkel in his Snapchat series “Mio Renovates.”

An innovative content creator

Mikkel Christiansen is best known from the music duo Broiler, which he started with his childhood friend in 2011. The duo quickly gained attention with songs that mixed humor and catchy beats. With major hits like “Rays of Light” and “Wild Eyes,” Broiler has become a well-known name both in Norway and internationally.

Beyond his music career, Mikkel has made a name for himself on social media as an innovative content creator. His creative flair and humorous approach have earned him a strong following on Snapchat, where he’s currently documenting his renovation of a Jugendstil villa in Bragernes, Drammen.

A place that feels like home

For someone renovating a house and unable to live at home, Origo Apartment Hotel is the perfect solution — and it turned out to be just that for Mikkel. In episode 15 of “Mio Renovates,” he shows off the apartment at Øvre Storgate 3.

– This doesn’t even look like a hotel. It’s a huge apartment, says the cameraman, Sindre.

– All the apartments at Origo are set up the same way. It’s a place you can actually live in and use just like a regular apartment. There’s no reception or breakfast buffet like at a regular hotel, which I personally think is nice — it really lets you feel at home. I like cooking for myself, Mikkel explains.

– All you need to bring is clothes and a phone charger, adds Sindre.

A bit more expensive — but worth it

When staying at a hotel for an extended period, you naturally want life to feel as normal as possible. One thing Mikkel highlights as a major advantage is not having to deal with a front desk.

– If you’re not in the mood to deal with people, you don’t have to. You just get a code, and everything is managed easily through an app, he says.

– This apartment costs a bit more than a standard hotel night, but there are also smaller apartments you can book. And honestly, if you’re staying in the city, the price is about the same as a regular hotel. I know very well what I would choose, Mikkel adds.

Perfect during renovations — or a breakup

For Mikkel, moving into Origo Apartment Hotel during his renovation was a no-brainer, but he believes it’s a great solution for others too.

– This is absolutely brilliant if you’re doing major renovations and can’t stay at home — or if you’ve just broken up with your girlfriend and need a place to stay because things are a bit tense at home, he jokes.

– It’s genius to use an apartment hotel even if you’re just in town for a while, adds the cameraman.

At Origo Apartment Hotel, you can stay for just one night or check in for longer periods. In our fully furnished apartments, you can live simply, comfortably, and deposit-free for as long as you need.

Plenty of advantages to apartment hotels

– The plan was to stay at Origo for one month, but with the pace we’re working at home, it looks like I’ll be here a bit longer. One and a half to two months seems more realistic, says Mikkel, who has even set up a music studio in his apartment so he can “make some money to fund more renovations.”

You can follow the full renovation journey in his Snapchat series “Mio Renovates”.

If you ask Mikkel, there are plenty of advantages to staying at an apartment hotel. Here are just a few:

  • You can bring your cat
  • It’s nice to feel a little bit like you’re at home
  • You can cook whatever you want for dinner
  • You don’t have to deal with reception desks or hotel staff — everything is managed through an app
  • It’s brilliant if you’re renovating your home and need a place to stay

– It’s honestly just super nice, he concludes.
