Spiralen
Built in the 1950s, Spiralen is one of the most spectacular tunnels in the world and has been featured in several international media outlets. For example, CNN Travel has ranked it as one of the top 10 most unique tunnels in the world. There is no doubt that it is an impressive piece of engineering. The tunnel winds its way up through the mountain in six and a half turns, providing both an exciting and somewhat surreal driving experience.
View and activities at Spiraltoppen
The tunnel twists like a spiral with a length of 1,650 meters before reaching Skansen, where you’ll find a restaurant, an open-air museum, and the city’s best viewpoint. To the west, you can also catch glimpses of Blefjell and snow-covered mountain peaks.
The Drammen Open-Air Museum is located behind Spiraltoppen, where you can explore a collection of relocated and restored houses from across Buskerud. Take a walk through the area, which offers a network of hiking trails winding through forests and meadows. When you’re done, you can enjoy a bite to eat or a refreshing drink at the restaurant with a view.

Spiraltoppen is a popular destination throughout the year. The large parking area at the top serves as a popular starting point for excursions in both summer and winter. Drammensmarka features a network of walking paths, hiking trails, numerous ski tracks, and illuminated trails.
Walking to Spiralen
If you prefer not to drive, you can take the walk from Bragernes Torg. Pass by the Rådhustårnet, which was once the fire station, and walk up to Bragernes Church. Just behind the church, you’ll find the gravel path known as Zik-Zakken, which will lead you up to the city’s summit.
